leading food distribution at Oak Timbers

Greetings Fellow Oak Timbers Residents

My name is John S. Olive and Darlene has asked me to help by leading the distribution of the food on Thursday afternoons. This message is to request your support including your prayers.

We are blessed that Pastor Brent Jones of Foundation of Life Church at 2003 E Ennis Avenue goes to the North Texas Food Bank. There he fills the back of his pickup truck and brings it to us. He also takes food to his church on Tuesdays as well on Thursdays in case you want to go there.

I am grateful for the gift of all sorts of vegetables and fruits. I like it when there are sometimes cookies, bread, and yogurt. This stretches my food budget and contributes to my health.

Maybe you do not want extra food and that is fine. Just know that this is an option. Please pray for your neighbors as we seek to develop a simple and flexible system to get the food to them.

Thankfully during the past months, there have been various volunteers to help with the distribution. Yet due to the age of our community, some have had health challenges on Thursdays or were gone to visit the doctor.

Let me list for you the phases of the operations so that you know the volunteer possibilities.

  1. Set up the clubhouse to get ready for the food to arrive.
  2. Unload the truck.
  3. Make up bags for those residents that cannot walk to the clubhouse.
  4. Take the empty boxes that had vegetables and fruits to the dumpster.
  5. Take the bags to those who cannot walk.
  6. Inform those who want to know that the food is available.
  7. Clean up afterward.

Previously we have had plenty of volunteers at each phase except the cleanup.

The time of the arrival of the food varies yet is never before 1 PM. Also some weeks there is no food delivered.

If you want to be contacted when the food is available then bring your own grocery bag and baggies. In order to be most fair please just get one bag at first. Then after others have come and gone you are welcomed to come get all you want. Every week there has been plenty of food for a second round.

Please contact me if you have questions or comments. My phone and text number is 972-948-4014.

Please pray for this system to consistently improve in order to serve our neighbors.

Thanks

John S. Oliver
